直近の外国人に確かめたことはないんだけど、欧米人と言うのはまだこの４学部という枠組みで学問を捉えているらしい。だから「文系対理系」みたいな物の捉えかたをしないみたいだし、だから文系/理系の対立みたいな感じにはならない。そして文系の学問をおさめた人も「あ、わたし理系は駄目だから」とか言わず最新の科学についての解説書を読んだりするみたい。
と主張されているけど、CP Snow の "The Two Cultures" での主張は文系と理系の対立です。
"A good many times I have been present at gatherings of people who, by the standards of the traditional culture, are thought highly educated and who have with considerable gusto been expressing their incredulity at the illiteracy of scientists. Once or twice I have been provoked and have asked the company how many of them could describe the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The response was cold: it was also negative. Yet I was asking something which is about the scientific equivalent of: 'Have you read a work of Shakespeare's?'
I now believe that if I had asked an even simpler question -- such as, What do you mean by mass, or acceleration, which is the scientific equivalent of saying, 'Can you read?' -- not more than one in ten of the highly educated would have felt that I was speaking the same language. So the great edifice of modern physics goes up, and the majority of the cleverest people in the western world have about as much insight into it as their neolithic ancestors would have had."

一世代前の人なので現在はどうか知りませんが、４学部に回帰したとしていても、"まだ"ではないです。

でもでも。ここにあがっている例は人が本質的に持っている思考のパターン(生まれ持った演算規則や公理系)が直に発現しているからおかしいのであって、何も(動物園の)檻の中の現象ではないと思う。「文字が一緒だから一緒」「太古からあるゆえ正しい」等々。
